If you love romance reads with edge, be sure to grab up a copy of Dark Heart today. Don't forget to pour yourself a glass of Geyser Peak to go along with, then settle in for the ride that Mitchell delivers in this steamy, bad boy romance. Happy Books & WIne Wednesday, everyone and happy reading!
My name is Aaron Jonson. I don’t have the time or the patience for most things. I’m not a nice guy.
There are few things in life I care about, my family, well…not all of them…and making money. I’m a simple man with simple pleasures. I work hard and I play harder, cliché? Probably.
I like routine. I like things to be controlled. More importantly, I like to be the one in control.
Lela Morgan is going to be a huge problem for me. I am not a babysitter. The minute I saw her in the airport, I knew she was going to be trouble.
Now she’s in my house. She’s at my work. She’s in my head.
She’s testing my limits. She’s pushing my control. She’s not going to beat me.
I play hard and I will win…because as I said, I’m really not a nice guy.
From my review:
Okay, I’m not gonna lie, when I saw the cover on this book, I had to have it because… oh, my! Totally swoon worthy. The brusque, alpha male hero, Aaron Johnson, is as well so it was easy to see why Lela couldn’t keep her eyes off him. I didn’t read the first book in this series, but had no trouble following the story and am now all the more intrigued about the underground world the author has created. The characters were well developed—even the supporting characters and the villains. I also liked that it was told from Aaron’s perspective. I’m not always a fan of first person pov, but it was done beautifully in Dark Heart and stayed consistent and believable throughout. As for the romance between Aaron and Lela, I’ll go ahead and call it a slow burn even though there were times when I worried that these two might never give in to their attraction and come together. That being said, it was a smoldering affair that in the end just ‘worked’. A very satisfying read with edge.
Happy Wine Wednesday! We're into the 'dog days' of summer here, in my neck of the woods. If you're rolling along, looking for a little something exciting to spice up these last couple weeks of August, this week's wine / book pairing should do the trick. Author Lawrence Hall's superhero romance, Vigillante, and the ever intriguing, Kung Fu Girl Reisling are the perfect temptation for the adventurous soul. So pull up your favorite reading spot and pour yourself a glass. Happy reading everybody!
Ashlyn Rivers is a detective in the Orias Police Department. Every day she goes about doing her part to protect and serve the people. Recently, a new criminal organization has moved into the city. If they continue to disturb the current crime boss and his empire, they will start a turf war that will hurt a lot of innocent people.
The mayor, meanwhile, has declared that the Vigilante is to be arrested on sight for fear others may try to copy him. Ashlyn cannot explain it, but she feels a connection with him and believes that he actually helps the OPD. If he truly has the abilities they say, she can sleep better at night knowing he has watch. Many in the department however, will go out of their way to make a name for themselves by being the cop that brings him in. Even if it costs lives.
There's a war coming and a lot of blood will be shed, unless Ashlyn can stop it with help from the Vigilante. That's if the Orias Police stay out of the way.
She works for the law, he works above it. Will they find a way to save the city and come together, or will their worlds forever keep their love apart? This debut novel puts a fresh spin on the female heroine, the man that loves her and those she's sworn to protect.
From my review:
I loved the whole superhero theme. I’ve read a ton of paranormal romances because it’s my favorite genre, but I hadn’t read one like this before. Good job, Author Hall, for putting something new on the scene. Vigilante was action packed, full of underworld, criminal intrigues and I could totally see it as a graphic novel. That would be really cool. I liked how the Vigilante’s superhero back story started to take shape in this first book and look forward to more secrets being revealed as the series continues.
Happy Wine and Book Wednesday everyone! This week's pairing is brought to you by Author Tori Alvarez's Naive in Love and Benziger Family Winery's Chardonnay. Naive in love is a New Adult, college romance perfect for all the back to school feels going on this time of year. I don't have any going off to college yet, but I know that I am definitely having some of those yearnings. As in, how soon do the kids start back to school again? Mama needs a quiet moment here. Lol. Here's hoping you all find a quiet moment to read Naive in Love with a glass of Benziger. Happy reading, book and wine lovers!
How do you know what love is if you have never experienced it? Love or infatuation? How's one to tell?
Sophia is having trouble navigating these new experiences during her first year in college. Each time someone tells her to follow her heart, she is even more confused and frustrated. Away from home and her friends, she needs to figure out who she is.
From my review:
Naive in Love
by Tori Alvarez
Great debut novel! Many life changes and first experiences were depicted very well in this book and the characters were relatable. It took me a little while to get into, but once the MC settled into her new life as a college freshman the story took off. There were a few times where I wished I could have put a bug in Sophia’s ear about a certain bad news boyfriend. But then, YAY! Ethan stepped in and saved the day! Nice coming of age story. Would recommend to anyone who enjoys NA romances that revolve around college life.
Happy Wine Wednesday everyone! Hope you are all having a wonderful week and managing to keep cool in the summer heat. I have a couple of things that can definitely help you out with that in the form of this week's wine / book pairing. Ellie Malouff's Between the Waves and Kono Marlborough Savignon Blanc are a great duo to keep to keep you company in the shade or while lounging poolside. Be sure to give them both a try, you'll be glad you did!
"Compulsively readable, sexy, and fun!"
I moved to a small town on the island of Maui, ready to live out my days on my own and far away from the monster I left back in Chicago.
It was the perfect reset until I needed something more. Someone more.
When I met Jake, the hottest guy in board shorts this side of the island, I started living again. He's teaching me how to surf, making my toes curl from pleasure, and is the one person I want to let into my world, with one condition...
He can never know my real name.
No one can.
Because if I'm found, I'll have to give up the life I'm building with Jake.
Where did this girl come from?
My life was on a straight trajectory—waking up at dawn, getting my brother off to school, heading to the shop, and watching surfers come and go—until a beautiful woman named Audrey Logan moved to town. She's guarded and mysterious, but I'm drawn to her in a way I can't resist.
I'm determined to break down her walls one surfing lesson at a time, in hopes that she'll stay in Maui and let me love her, come what may.
What to expect from this standalone novella: hot surfer dudes, bonfire parties, kissing under the stars, romps on the beach, lovey-dovey stuff, mysterious backstories, "I will protect you!" hero vibes, suspense, kick ass women, and of course a happily ever after.
*** From my review:
Perfect Summer book! I really enjoyed this quick, summer read. Set in beautiful Hawaii, it had all the best beach elements—sun, sand and a hot surfer guy to fall in love with. It’s very well written, has fantastic characters, no slow spots. I finished it in a day because I couldn’t put it down. I loved all the surfer quotes the author put in as well. Well done, Ms. Malouff!
Would recommend to anyone looking for a great little romance to throw in their beach or pool bag.
Happy May 1st and, more importantly, happy Wine Wednesday everyone!
This week's pairing is brought to you by my current read - New york Time's Bestselling Author, Gena Showalter's book, Wicked Nights, and Raeburn Chardonnay. Wicked Nights is the first book in Showalter's Angels of the Dark series. Showalter is one of my go-to paranormal romance authors and I just picked this little gem up about a day ago, but oh my... so good! The rest of the books in the series look amazing too and the covers... *sigh*. Let's just say, I think I'm going to be crushing on angels for a while. Go grab yourself a copy of this sexy angels romance and read along with me. Pour yourself a glass of Raeburn chardonnay and we'll be all set.
Wishing you a fabulous wine / book night tonight and, as always, happy reading!

Accused of a crime she did not commit, Annabelle Miller has spent four years in an institution for the criminally insane. Demons track her every move, and their king will stop at nothing to have her. Zacharel is her only hope for survival, but is the brutal angel with a touch as hot as hell her salvation—or her ultimate damnation?
Happy Wine Wednesday everyone!
I know I missed last week. This time of year things get a little crazy. But I'm back with another 'perfect for each other' wine/book pairing. It's a little obvious, I know, I apologize for that, but when you have a story bout a cupcake and flower shop owner and a super hot, redeemed bad-boy then there's no question but to pair it with a Cupcake wine. Author Cassie Faber's Frozen Memories of her new Angelbay Harbor series and Cupcake Chardonnay are our lovely couple for this week's post. With thing's getting hectic as the season change really gets going and probably some spring fever setting in, if you're like me, these two make for a nice little world all your own to slide away into for an escape from all the busyness. So, nestle into your favorite reading spot for a while, grab a copy of Frozen Memories and have a sip of Cupcake Chard! Happy reading!
Redeemed bad boy Boh Mason has been running for all of his life to protect those he loves from the demons of his past. He ends up in the small coastal town of Angelbay Harbour, where young and talented Claire Forester literally falls into his arms.
The unworldly, innocent co-owner of Angel’s Cupcakes & Flowers, who is fighting to regain lost memories after a devastating car accident, finds herself inexplicably attracted to the mysterious stranger.
When his past pulls him into an inescapable web of corruption, he discovers for the first time in his life that running is not an option, and Claire realizes that the key to unearthing her memories is in the hands of the person who will change her world irrevocably…

A GAME OF THRONES
A CLASH OF KINGS
A STORM OF SWORDS
A FEAST FOR CROWS
A DANCE WITH DRAGONS
“One of the best series in the history of fantasy.”--Los Angeles Times
Winter is coming. Such is the stern motto of House Stark, the northernmost of the fiefdoms that owe allegiance to King Robert Baratheon in far-off King’s Landing. There Eddard Stark of Winterfell rules in Robert’s name. There his family dwells in peace and comfort: his proud wife, Catelyn; his sons Robb, Brandon, and Rickon; his daughters Sansa and Arya; and his bastard son, Jon Snow. Far to the north, behind the towering Wall, lie savage Wildings and worse—unnatural things relegated to myth during the centuries-long summer, but proving all too real and all too deadly in the turning of the season.
Yet a more immediate threat lurks to the south, where Jon Arryn, the Hand of the King, has died under mysterious circumstances. Now Robert is riding north to Winterfell, bringing his queen, the lovely but cold Cersei, his son, the cruel, vainglorious Prince Joffrey, and the queen’s brothers Jaime and Tyrion of the powerful and wealthy House Lannister—the first a swordsman without equal, the second a dwarf whose stunted stature belies a brilliant mind. All are heading for Winterfell and a fateful encounter that will change the course of kingdoms.
Meanwhile, across the Narrow Sea, Prince Viserys, heir of the fallen House Targaryen, which once ruled all of Westeros, schemes to reclaim the throne with an army of barbarian Dothraki—whose loyalty he will purchase in the only coin left to him: his beautiful yet innocent sister, Daenerys.
“Long live George Martin . . . a literary dervish, enthralled by complicated characters and vivid language, and bursting with the wild vision of the very best tale tellers.”—The New York Times

Elayne MacNally knew one thing for certain: Her reputation as the willful harpy of the highlands was well earned.
As the spoiled daughter of the successful Laird MacNally, Elayne got whatever she wanted, until the man she thought she would wed rejected her. Dejected and reconsidering her lot in life, her father comes up with an opportunity that could change the course of her life and perhaps her reputation as well.
Declan MacCollough also knew one thing for certain: He did not want to follow in his father’s footsteps as Laird of the reputed “Beast Clan.”
Following his father’s death, Declan had a lot of work ahead of him to reclaim any sense of respect for his people. Families had fled; fathers would not permit their daughters to wed into the clan. Declan wanted, more than anything, to recreate his clan into one deserving of service to the King. The first step Declan must take is to find a wife with enough backbone to help him tame his clan, help it grow, and gain back respect.
Learning of Elayne and her reputation, Declan offers to wed the lass – an arranged marriage of sorts. With no other choices open to her, Elayne decides that the Laird of the Beast Clan is her best, if only, option.
What happens when she arrives is a strange and passionate meeting of the minds between herself and Declan. Playing on each other’s strengths, they maneuver around those who attempt to prevent the marriage as a play for power. However, Declan’s past affiliations with the King are not welcome by all, and the challenges to their marriage become the least of their worries.
Can Declan and Elayne trust each other enough to face the threats to the MacCollough clan and their very lives?

Happy Wine Wednesday everybody! I know I've been MIA the last couple of weeks but now I'm back with a hot, new pairing for you. This week's wine / book love affair is brought to you by USA Today Bestselling Author, Pamela Clare's Barely Breathing and Mile High Winery's American Zinfandel. I put these two together after finishing the book to show a little love to my home state. Both the wine and the author are home grown Coloradans and Clare's amazing Colorado High Country series is all Colorado mountain life, all the time.
I've been a fan of Clare's books for a long time and really love her historical romances but Barely Breathing brings the small town, mountain setting to life. Throughout the book, I found myself shaking my head and thinking, 'Yup. I know these people.' There's a lot of action in the books to keep you on the edge of your seat, hot, sexy romance and a bunch of hunky, mountain climbing rescue team heroes. Yay, Colorado! Be sure to add this book to your TBR and grab yourself a glass from The Mile High Winery to go with. Again, my F'sWB -friends with books ;), happy Wine Wednesday and happy reading!
A hot contemporary romance from the author of the acclaimed I-Team series…
Lexi Jewell left Scarlet Springs twelve years ago, vowing never to return to the small Colorado mountain town where she grew up. Now, here she is—over thirty, out of a job and with little choice but to move back in with her eccentric father. Lexi knows it’s just a matter of time before she runs into Austin Taylor, her first boyfriend and her first heartbreak. She’s determined to show him she’s over him—until he steps out of a pickup truck and back into her life, looking sexy as hell in his mountain ranger uniform.
As far as Austin is concerned, Lexi can turn her snazzy little convertible around and drive back to Chicago. After all, she ripped his teenage heart to pieces and turned her back on the town he loves. But from the moment he sees her again, he can’t get her out of his mind. Even her smile messes with his head.
When an evening of conversation turns into something else, Lexi and Austin agree to be friends—with benefits. But as Lexi starts making plans to return to the big city, Austin realizes he’ll lose her a second time unless he can show her that what she’s searching for has been right here all along.
